Is the temperature of a lake related to the growth of its inhabitants?

In summary, JW is a new member of the physics forum and is a high school student taking physics classes. They plan on seeking help and posting necessary topics in the forum. They also mention having goldfish as their favorite fish. The conversation includes welcoming messages and jokes about frozen flounder and goldfish. The other members also mention the diversity and intelligence of the forum, and JW is encouraged to stay and participate. Despite a high mortality rate of new members, JW seems to have survived the initial welcome.

JWHooper
Hello,

It's great to be part of the physics forum. Currently, I'm a high school student, and in a physics class. Sometimes, I have a little bit of difficulties on my physics homework, and next year I'm taking somehow related physics course. I'll come in here sometimes, and post things that I find necessary.

Well, I have few goldfishes around my house area outdoors. So, I guess goldfishes would be an answer for me. How about you?

Well, their is a small and ever so discreet induction to PF..whats your feelings on frozen flounder?

O man, he has no idea what's about to hit him! Take it easy on the guy hypatia. Frozen flounder may be a little too harsh! Frozen halibut on the other hand...

Hi JW! You've found a great place. It's a resource to get help with your homework problems, and with your understanding of the fundamental ideas as well.

I've found that this place is frequented by smart and insightful people. Funny, too. They're also...odd.

Welcome! (Stick with the goldfish, btw)

She is taking it easy on him. She just smacked me with a frozen whale in a different thread, for some totally innocent remark about her mother's kitty. The woman is a menace to society. (But I love her anyhow.)

Welcome to PF!

You got REALLY lucky that you chose goldfish :biggrin:.

Goldfish huh?

<Whacks JWHooper with a goldfish>

*thwip thwip thwip*

Nope, that doesn't cut it.

<WHAM>

That's better, frozen flounder hits the spot, JW, you've been officially fish whacked and initiated into PF. :approve:

Who said we were odd? :grumpy:

The tradition lives on. Don't worry. It happened to all of us (except me :biggrin:).

Welcome JWH!

So, what are the odds that we'll ever hear from this dude again? People who have been publicly fish-whapped have a marked tendency to vanish.

We *do* have a high mortality rate, don't we? :redface:

I dunno, I think s/he was very clever to choose a goldfish. :biggrin:

  • #16
Hmmm... I just got an idea for a new Guiness Book entry. Merger of a couple of old records. Let's see how many goldfish we can stuff into a phone booth.

What's up, guys? This forum looks like a great place to visit, and it seems that we have people with great sense of humor :biggrin:

I'll stick with the goldfishes, btw.

OMG! They're still here!

<throws net over JWHooper>

Danger, quick, lock the door!

Holy sheep****! He's still here!
Really, JW, we have some sort of curse going on. People who come into GD and get 'welcomed' have a very strong tendency to decide that they'd rather be elsewhere. Thanks for hanging in.
This really is the best site on the net for anything intellectual (or not, in my case). There's a lot of fun to be had behind the scenes (ie: here in GD), but you also have access to some of the best brains on the planet (again, not in my case). We have everything from Astronuc who is a specialist in nuclear reactor containment vessels to Fred Garvin who designs jet engines to Arildno and ZapperZ who specialize in particle physics to Moonbear who is the resident expert in reproductive biology. I'm pretty much just here for comic relief, and to occassionally kick the ass of someone who richly deserves it. :biggrin:

Thanks for welcoming! :smile:

It looks like PF has a lot of intellectual people, and it looks like a great forum. Nice meeting you, Danger, and other people that has replied to my message!

Glad you survived the welcome. You're the first I've seen in a while to have done that.

The door's locked! No getting away now! :biggrin: Oh, and welcome to PF.

I think it was the goldfish selection. Hard to get a good K.O. with one of those.

Wow, I think we should make you our goodwill ambassador!

JW, I think you will fit right in!

I don't know. Some of the outdoor ones look pretty hefty to me.

Yep, those would be the Godzilla Goldfish.

Likewise, I'm sure. :wink:

I think that we should institute a new tradition around here. Someone who survives the fish-smack welcoming ceremony and continues to associate with us should get a guilded fish plaque. Now, since JW's chosen species was a goldfish, we can dispense with the guilding part and just glue it to a chunk of wood. (If it takes more than a day or so to mail it to him/her, we should probably spray on some varnish or something...)

Excellent idea!

Yeah, definitely some varnish. What kind of wood? JW, do you have any wood preferences?

Since it's a fish, I was thinking driftwood.

I would never have thought that someone with a name like Kurdt could be funny, but that was a stroke of brilliance.
