In summary, the speaker built a computer for their step-brother and experienced difficulty booting it up. They eventually got it working, but encountered an issue with the hard drive showing up in the safely removing hardware menu in Windows. However, the hard drive appears correctly in the My Computer menu. The speaker is seeking suggestions on how to fix this problem and mentions that it is their first time using a SATA hard drive.

OK, i built a computer for my step-brother today. After a lot of pain getting it to boot, i got it working.

But in windows, the menu for safely removing hardware (like what comes up when you put a usb key drive in) comes up, and the main (only) hard drive is there. but in my computer, it shows up like it should.

anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I am stumped.

Are you using a SATA hard drive? SATA hard drives are plug and play so showing up in that menu is no problem.
