Still Life

This is the photo version of the still life paintings. If you have seen still life paintings, or even have done one yourself in an art class, then you have an idea of what the theme is. However, this time, instead of taking your your paint brushes and canvas, you take a picture of it. You may set up your own subject to be photograph in the settings/lighting/etc that you wish. However, once the photo has been snapped, no photo processing should be done other than those allowed in our contest.

Good luck!

Contest Rules:

1. Any digital photo or digitally-scanned photo relevant to the theme will be accepted within the contest period. In case there's a gray area, or you're not sure if the picture is suitable, check with me first.

2. Please resize your digital photo to no more than 650 x 490 or 490 x 650 pixels. You may also crop your picture if you wish. You are also allowed to adjust the brightness and contrast of your picture but these should not dramatically alter the look of the picture. But other than those, any form of picture editing or modification is not allowed. This is a photo contest, not a picture editing/special effect contest. You may add a watermark or your name/nickname to the photo for identification purposes.

3. Upload your photos to any of the photo servers such as imageshack. Then post it the relevant contest thread and link your picture using the img command. PM me if you do not know how.

4. Only ONE picture per member per contest. Once a picture is posted, it cannot be changed other than a total withdrawl by that member from that week's photo contest. Exceptions will be made for modification to comply with the rules, such as resizing.

5. At the end of the contest period, I will open a poll and every PF member can vote for the picture they like best.

6. Note that in case we have a large number of entries, I will do the polling in more than one thread. If that's the case, you can vote in each of the polling threads. The photos will be assigned in the polling threads in the order they were submitted.

7. These pictures must be something that you took, not something taken off someone else's photo albums or taken by someone else. I have no way of checking if you did this, so we'll go by the honor system.

8. You can use a picture only once. Once it is used in a contest, it cannot be reused in another contest.

9. Please post only pictures meant for submission in this thread.

Inspired by cold beer, here is a crop of my rinsed habaneros prior to making chili relish.

Yum! It's time for some cold beer and some hot chillies.

LOL, you crack me up turbo-1. Great photo man, that looks tempting, even to me!

Thanks, vincentm! The focus is a bit soft and the lighting stinks, but I like the colors, and thought the habaneros would look nice under larkspur's beautiful frosty beer. She's getting that light-tent down to an art!

Those are beautiful peppers Turbo. Mech_Engineer, can you put a few hours on the watch so it would be time for happy hour?

What the hey! It's after noon. You might want to have a few more beers on hand before you bite one of these peppers, though. They are at least 10x hotter than the habaneros that you can get in the supermarket and they have to be processed into salsas and chili relishes and be used in moderation, until you know what these little rascals can do. 1/2 tsp of my habanero relish in a hot dog roll makes my scalp sweat like crazy. Most people can't take more than a bite of a hot dog dressed that way, but I love them. I've got my wife hooked on jalapeno relish for her hot dogs, but she gives the habanero relish a wide berth.

It is the "best" aluminum foil! :)

The one we use for this purpose is rated for ultra-high vacuum, which means that it is ultra clean with no traceable grease/hydrocarbon/etc. We only use it when it comes in contact with components that have surfaces that will go into a UHV system. So that includes flanges and cavity openings.

They are a bunch of many different stuff that we use in our RF systems. Some of them are waveguides, a couple of them are RF mode converters (changing the geometry of EM wave from one form to another), while others are copper structures that hold our dielectric tubes that we pass high-powered RF through to see if they will survive.

There's a large chunk of change that went into make all of them. :)
