Could the board at least be altered so that only problems
in arithmetic and elementary algebra through college algebra
be included in a certain otherwise named category?

As it is now, topics under "General Math" range from about
elementary algebra through advanced calculus and post-
calculus material.

General math is supposed to be the category in which posts are made which do not belong in any other category.

I agree that calculus-threads or abstract algebra-threads do not belong in general math. If you do see threads on these topics, then please report them. Mentors will then move this thread to an appropriate category.

1. What topics fall under the category of "General Math"?

General Math encompasses a wide range of mathematical topics, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.

2. Is General Math the same as Basic Math?

No, General Math is a broader category that includes basic math concepts, but also includes more advanced topics such as calculus and statistics.

3. Why is "General Math" considered too broad?

The term "General Math" is often considered too broad because it covers such a wide range of topics and does not specify a specific area of focus. It is more helpful to specify a specific branch of math, such as algebra or geometry, when discussing mathematical concepts.

4. Are there any subcategories within "General Math"?

Yes, there are many subcategories within General Math, such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, and more. Each of these subcategories focuses on specific mathematical concepts and principles.

5. How can I narrow down my studies if General Math is too broad?

If you are looking to narrow down your studies within mathematics, it is helpful to identify your specific interests or goals. For example, if you are interested in pursuing a career in engineering, you may want to focus on topics such as calculus and trigonometry. If you are interested in data analysis, statistics and probability may be more relevant to your studies.
