Ambient Power Module - Questions & Answers

In summary, The conversation revolves around ambient power modules and their effectiveness. The person asking has a few questions regarding their functionality, power output, size, and potential cost. The response suggests that solar energy is the only ambient power worth pursuing, along with other sources such as wave, wind, and hydro energy. The person also mentions a link about getting power from RF signals, but notes that solar energy is a more efficient option.

Hi

Does anyone have any experience with ambient power modules? I have a few questions, if anyone could answer any of them i would be most apreciative.
1) do they work?
2) how much power can they output?
3) how small can you make them?
4) how much could you make them for (in mass production)?

Thanks

Solar energy is the only ambient power I know of that is worth pursuing.

Edit: also wave, wind and hydro energy

what about this though? http://www.angelfire.com/ak5/energy21/ambientpower.htm

any idea if this would work?

If you are talking about getting power from RF signals in the air (which is what a radio receiver does) then you are only going to be able to get a few micro-watts at best. You would be better off getting power from the sun. Note, you can't get something for nothing.

1. What is an Ambient Power Module?

An Ambient Power Module is a device that harnesses the energy from the surrounding environment, such as sunlight, temperature changes, and vibrations, and converts it into usable electricity.

2. How does an Ambient Power Module work?

An Ambient Power Module typically uses a combination of energy harvesting techniques, such as photovoltaic cells, thermoelectric generators, and piezoelectric materials, to capture and convert ambient energy into electrical energy. The energy is then stored in a battery or capacitor for later use.

3. What are the advantages of using an Ambient Power Module?

Using an Ambient Power Module eliminates the need for traditional power sources, such as batteries or electrical outlets, making it a more sustainable and cost-effective option. It also allows for remote or off-grid power applications, making it ideal for use in areas with limited access to traditional power sources.

4. Are there any limitations to an Ambient Power Module?

One limitation of an Ambient Power Module is that the amount of energy it can generate is dependent on the availability of ambient energy in the surrounding environment. This means that in areas with low ambient energy, the module may not be able to generate enough power to meet the energy demands.

5. What are some common applications for an Ambient Power Module?

An Ambient Power Module can be used in a variety of applications, such as powering wireless sensors, wearables, and small electronic devices. It can also be used in smart buildings and homes to supplement traditional power sources and reduce energy costs.
