MR. RUSSERT: And we are back. Fifty-eight years ago MEET THE PRESS debuted as a television program on NBC. It is now the longest-running program in the world. Our first guest on that Thursday night at 8 p.m. was James A. Farley, F.D.R.'s close adviser and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Happy birthday, MEET THE PRESS. On to 59.

It just blew me away to think that this goes all the way back to FDR's people. As with http://www.pbs.org/newshour/" on PBS and a few other sources, the chance to watch extended interviews with the people making the news is invaluable. Russert carries on the tradition of asking the tough questions while face to face with those who are accountable. IMO this show is a must for anyone interested in politics.

Also, I'm relieved that the integrity of PBS has been kept intact and out of conservative hands and manipulation (so far -- rat bast****).

I find it fascinating to see the evolution of media and its impact on public discourse. MEET THE PRESS has been a staple in American politics for 58 years, providing a platform for in-depth discussions with influential figures. It is impressive to see the show's longevity and its ability to adapt to changing times while maintaining its core values of journalistic integrity and accountability.

In today's fast-paced news cycle, it is crucial to have a program like MEET THE PRESS that allows for extended interviews and dives deeper into important issues. This not only provides a more comprehensive understanding of current events but also holds those in power accountable for their actions and decisions.

I believe that shows like MEET THE PRESS are essential in promoting informed and critical thinking among the public. It is encouraging to see that the show is already looking ahead to its 59th year and I look forward to seeing how it continues to evolve and shape the political landscape in the years to come. Happy birthday, MEET THE PRESS, and here's to many more years of thought-provoking discussions.
