Coal Tar...wtf?

This experiment I am going to be working on calls for some coal tar. I have no clue where to get some besides trying to separate it out of shampoos and soaps. Any hints?

Or what i can use instead of Coal Tar.

I'm pretty sure it's used for skin problems, so go see a chemist (if you're not British see a pharmacist ;) ).

Bizarre. But if your claim that:

This experiment I am going to be working on calls for some coal tar

Then don't you think you should stick to procuring some coal tar instead of searching for a substitute? =P I'm sure you could find it online, molecular compound sites? Coal tar for sale? Ebay?
Just my two cents, perhaps a molecular scientist would like to contradict me =)
