Finding Longitudinal Data of Star Magnitudes in Surveys

In summary, the speaker is looking for sky surveys that have longitudinal data of star magnitudes with no specific passband requirement. They mention several surveys that have been found so far, but most surveys only image each region of the sky once per survey phase. They ask for recommendations for other surveys with public online data access, and someone suggests vizier.

I am trying to find some sky surveys that have longitudinal data of star magnitudes. The passband does not matter. All that matters is that stars has been observed periodically for a decent amount of time (no surveys with only 9-10 observations per catalogue object).
Sadly, the only ones I know of thus far are:
AAVSO catalogue (American Association of Variable Star Observers)
OGLE (Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment)
TASS (The Amateur Sky Survey)
ASAS (All Sky Automated Survey)
NSVS (Northern Sky Variability Survey)

The other surveys I find tend to image each region of the sky only once per survey phase.

Can anyone recommend any other surveys which have public data access online?

Thank you in advance!

Try vizier.

1. What is longitudinal data?

Longitudinal data refers to data that is collected over a period of time from the same group of individuals or subjects. In the case of star magnitudes in surveys, longitudinal data would involve collecting data on the brightness of stars over a period of time.

2. How is longitudinal data collected in surveys?

In surveys, longitudinal data is typically collected through repeated measurements or observations of the same group of individuals or subjects over time. This can be done through surveys, interviews, or other data collection methods.

3. What are the benefits of using longitudinal data in studying star magnitudes?

Using longitudinal data allows scientists to track changes in star magnitudes over time, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the behavior and characteristics of stars. It also allows for the identification of patterns and trends that may not be apparent in cross-sectional data.

4. What are some potential challenges in finding longitudinal data of star magnitudes in surveys?

One potential challenge is ensuring that the data is collected consistently and accurately over time. This may require careful planning and coordination in the data collection process. Additionally, finding long-term surveys that specifically track star magnitudes may be limited and may require more specialized research.

5. How can scientists use longitudinal data of star magnitudes in surveys in their research?

Longitudinal data of star magnitudes can be used in various ways, such as studying the effects of stellar evolution, tracking changes in the brightness of specific stars, and identifying potential correlations between star magnitudes and other variables. It can also be used to validate and improve existing models and theories about stars.
