In summary, Indonesians witnessed an unidentified object with a tail of fire hurtling towards Earth near their capital, followed by a loud explosion. According to Indonesian air force radar, the object was detected falling at a high speed before disappearing at the same time the noise was heard. Experts believe it was a large meteor that burned up upon entering the Earth's atmosphere, causing the loud noise. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries. It remains to be seen if any meteorites will be found.

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- Indonesians saw an object with a tail of fire hurtling toward Earth near their capital early Sunday before hearing a loud explosion. An expert speculated it might have been a meteor.

There were no reports of injuries.

Indonesian air force radar detected an unidentified object falling toward the Earth at a great speed before disappearing around the same time the noise was heard, a spokesman said.

Muji Raharto, an astronomy professor with the Bandung Institute of Technology in West Java province, suggested the object was a large meteor that burned up as it fell through the Earth's atmosphere, "causing a loud noise."

Interesting, the first report I heard was that the radar didn't see anything when the noises were heard. I wonder if they'll find any meteorites soon.

1. What caused the loud noise heard in Jakarta?

The loud noise heard in Jakarta was likely caused by a meteor exploding in the atmosphere.

2. Was there any damage or injuries reported from the possible meteor explosion?

There have been no reports of damage or injuries caused by the possible meteor explosion near Jakarta.

3. How common are meteor explosions?

Meteor explosions are relatively rare events, but they do occur from time to time. They are more commonly observed in areas with lower population densities.

4. Can meteor explosions be dangerous to humans?

In most cases, meteor explosions are not dangerous to humans as they typically occur high in the atmosphere and the fragments burn up before reaching the ground. However, if a meteor were to explode close to the ground, it could potentially cause damage and injuries.

5. Is there any way to predict when and where meteor explosions will occur?

At this time, there is no reliable way to predict when and where meteor explosions will occur. Scientists and organizations around the world are constantly monitoring the skies for potential threats, but predicting specific events is still not possible.
