Why iron from a bloomery has less carbon than iron from a blast furnace?

This question might not fit in here very well but I’m wondering why in the past iron smelted from a bloomery had less carbon than pig iron smelted from a blast furnace. Is it because pig iron had less impurities leaving more room for carbon?
