SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the possibility of HIV becoming airborne. For HIV to achieve this, it would need to cause upper airway infections by lysing cells in that region, allowing the virus to be transmitted through the air, such as during sneezing. However, participants assert that HIV does not target the cells responsible for upper airway infections, making airborne transmission highly unlikely.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of HIV transmission mechanisms
  • Knowledge of viral infection pathways
  • Familiarity with upper respiratory infections
  • Basic virology concepts
NEXT STEPS
  • Research HIV transmission and its cellular targets
  • Study the mechanisms of upper respiratory infections
  • Explore viral mutation impacts on transmission routes
  • Investigate airborne pathogens and their transmission dynamics
USEFUL FOR

Virologists, public health professionals, and anyone interested in the transmission dynamics of HIV and airborne viruses.

Could HIV become airborn and what if it does?

For it to become airborn, it needs to be causing an upper airway infection, lysing those cells, where it is carried through the air during sneezing or something.

I don't think HIV actually causes upper airway infections, those are not the cells it targets to infect.
