Trace calculations in QED, freeware

Is there a reliable freeware program for Windows XP Pro to do traces
of gamma matrix products? I've tried Google, but couldn't find a
search phrase that was precise enough to find anything useful.

TIA

The following are free software packages that have some facility for
dealing with the algebra of Dirac gamma matrices:

Maxima, http://maxima.sourceforge.net/
Axiom, http://wiki.axiom-developer.org/FrontPage
GiNaC, http://www.ginac.de/

I believe all of them work on Windows. However, if you decide to use
any one of them, you'll have to spend some time learning to use the
provided environment.

There also seem to be addon packages for commercial computer algebra
systems that do the trick:

Maple, http://a-siver.chat.ru/
Mathematica, http://library.wolfram.com/infocenter/MathSource/435/
Reduce, www.reduce-algebra.com/docs/cvit.pdf

Hope this helps.
