Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the process of locating SCSI adapters during the installation of Windows NT 4.0 Server. It addresses the recognition of SCSI cards by the operating system and the necessity of drivers for proper functionality.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions how Windows NT will locate the SCSI adapter if it is installed in the server.
  • Another participant suggests that having the drivers for the SCSI card is essential and implies that installation should follow standard procedures for adding hardware.
  • A different participant expresses uncertainty about the necessity of drivers, asking if the server can recognize the SCSI adapter independently.
  • Further clarification is requested regarding the original participant's intentions, with a suggestion that the process may be more complicated than necessary. This participant outlines a basic procedure for installation and emphasizes the need for drivers if the card is not recognized.
  • One participant acknowledges the clarification and expresses understanding.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion reflects uncertainty regarding the necessity of drivers for SCSI adapters, with some participants suggesting they are essential while others question this requirement. There is no consensus on the recognition process of the SCSI card by Windows NT.

Contextual Notes

Participants do not clarify specific assumptions about the hardware compatibility or the version of the SCSI adapter being used, which may affect the discussion.

What if a server has a SCSI adapter installed, how will Windows NT locate them?

Do you have the drivers for the scsi card? You should be able to install a scsi card just as install any other card

No I don't have the drivers. Do I need them? Can't the server recognize it on its own?

Can you be a more specific in what your trying to do? Maybe your making things more complicated then they have to be or I just don't understand what your asking.

You open up the computer, put the card in, and boot windows. Then go to add hardware and see if windows finds the card. If it doesn't then you need to go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers.

Okay, I understand. Thank you.
