Why is it good to steal or lie?

Seriously, there are so many examples of people who have robbed and swindled their way to the top, and if you are rich enough and get caught it will probably be a slap on the wrist for you. We are taught very young that stealing and lying is just bad, but why? You could become president if you are a good enough liar, why not teach our kids to lie and steal better than everyone else and not get caught? Maybe it's only bad if you get caught but if you can get good at lying and stealing then it's good. Just a thought.

That is not true or valid in the circles that I am part of. Honesty, charity, and service are valued, and dishonesty is viewed very badly. What scenarios are you holding up as shining examples of how lies and cheating are good things?
