Alpha particles

Two questions:

1)Why the velocity spectra of alpha rays is lineal?
2)What is the form of the Bragg curves for the electrons and the protons?

1)What i know is that a-ray spectra has fine stucture, caused by the gamma emission that goes along with alpha emission, but i don't think that this is relevant.
