Acronis backup access

Here's hoping someone can help.

I made an Acronis back up of a drive that was failing. Then the drive failed. Lucky me.
I bought a new drive and installed it. Formatted it and reinstalled XP
The problems started then.
When I try to open the backup file ( 15G compressed to about 5G ) the Acronis program tells me this is not the latest back up and will not let me explore the file.
Since this is the only back up I ever made it has me screwed.

Does anyone know a work around for this problem? The file extension is .tib and I cannot find any other program that can open it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
