MATLAB low pass and high pass

1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data

Anyone here knows how to make an algorithm (program) of a high pass and low pass band filter?
Can u help me to make one?

3. The attempt at a solution

To take the FFT of the signal within Matlab and zero-out all elements before cutoff frequency (for low pass)..but don't know how to do it..:(
