A Mobius sequence

I read that the basic mobius strip formed by twisting a strip of material once and joining the ends together to form and endless strip forms a single surface with only one edge. A cut along this edge 1/3 the way across the strip from the cut edge froms two interlinked strips one a mobius strip with a single surface and one edge and another a two surface endless strip with two edges. If you cut each endless strip once more at one third the width from the cut edge, I believe that you will get 1 endless mobus strip with one edge and surface and three non mobius strips each with two edges and surfaces.
So if I repeat this again and again an write down the number of surfaces or edges after each step, I believe that I would get the sequence 1,3,7,15,.... Is that correct?
