If I said what was on my mind right now, I would be banned.

There is no where on this planet for ANY reason that this is "OK". The reason for this way of thinking must be eradicated, it's the only way, the source must be removed.

I hope future mothers are more educated and tolerant than those who easily lose in emotions and throw acid at their own daughters. Yet, few people are shooting down girls for attending schools. It's an interesting topic what can even eradicate intolerant elements in the culture.

Why ban someone who speaks from the heart ?
PF is a science forums, science is to be about truth, someone's deep thoughts are truthful.

It's got to come from change at the source. Teach the younger generation the correct way to think, prevent and/or punish the ones that think this is ok so severely that they'd wish being "dishonored" was all they had to worry about. The younger generation can't be taught if their family will kill them.

How could this type of thing have survived into the 21st century? Obviously, people don't want it to change. I am so happy for those that have managed to escape.

Political commercial for this guy that's running for Republican Governor of MO. I don't know to whom he was referring, but he said "HE VETOED my bill protecting our religious rights". He's not an elected official so I'm wondering if the guy had a mouse in his pocket or is just really emotionally attached to the vetoed bill.

This guy's campaign has been rather embarrassing for him, IMO.

So happy the elections are ending.

Another reason I shouldn't watch the local news. A woman faces jail time for capturing 4 feral cats, getting them spayed and neutered and setting them free under the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) plan sponsored by the SPCA. Her neighbors complained that she fed the cats, thereby attracting them. Well, yeah, that's how you trap them.

WTH????

The poor woman was in tears, saying she was told this was the thing to do and wanted to help keep the cat population in her rural area under control. She paid for eveything out of her own pocket. Unfortunately in this part of the country cat control is done with rat poison and shotguns. How dare she humanely care for them?

Ditto.

blabbering gibberish, about the woman I've worked with for 25 years, who swam across the Hong Kong harbor, to escape, and come to, what we hope will be, the land of sensibility, tomorrow, preemptively, deleted.

good night.

We made almond butter this morning by putting almonds in a coffee grinder (that is not used for coffee) and grinding it and grinding until we had almond butter. It is amazing.

How much would a telescope through which I could see Saturn's rings cost?

Join some kind of telescope club near you and get an idea of what you need. It could be just a few good views through someone else's scope will satisfy you.

I checked and there aren't any in a convenient proximity to me (I neither drive nor do I like to spend money on public transit). However, I did a little research and read that a 60-80mm refracting telescope is a good beginner range. Would you be able to approximate the maximum distance at which 80mm could get an image with a good balance between size and clarity? Or is there a website to which you could direct me that would?

We do have a whole thread dedicated to questions like this. Your questions would be better off asked there.
