Lol, I knew someone would say that...but as a woman traveling alone, it's not wise for me to stay in some flea-bag $49-per-night armpit.
There are ones that cost $60 or $80. I have gotten free wifi in most that only cost about $60.

Why is Microsoft Works superior to Office 2007? It's like they took everything that was good about Microsoft Office, and threw it in the trash for Works to claim. Then they stole Office 2007 from some crazy coked up hippy who won't shut up about how you "can't, like, own a pulldown menu man"

I wonder if people will get bored of posting random thoughts or if this thread will go on forever, and if so would it make it into the GD classics. I might just cry.

Over 2 hours writing a paper, computer magically crashes, the hard drive starts spinning fast, making a sound that made me think it could just explode, turn off, and now after 15 minutes it won't turn on again.

Now I want to cry.

We just don't have threads like the Tiki Lounge and Thread Killer Champions threads anymore.

Even hotels costing well over $100 per night can be a bit ratty. What gets me though is that in most major cities, for a $300 room, the only real difference is found in the hotel lobby. The rooms are barely any nicer than hotels costing half as much.

One of my worst experiences was in a Hampton Inn. They had a new chef who used old shrimp in the salad... Boy was I sick!

Many years ago, while on a very strict budget, I stayed at what looked like a very nice but inexpensive motel in a rather seedy part of town. The first thing that I noticed was the unusually large selection of adult movies. I mean the guest book thingy listed dozens of dirty movies. WTF, thought I. Later that evening, I noticed that a rather large number of very nice cars were parked in the parking lot. Then I started to notice the color scheme of the motel - soft pastels.

I finally realized that I would be the only person in that motel sleeping alone that night.

I was very very tired one day and needed a place to crash for a few hours. There were mushrooms growing out of the splattered drywall ceiling. They weren't eatable though.

My neighbor's wife has strep, but her work is so short-handed that they are pounding her with hours. Her grand-daughter has been sent home from school because she has a fever. She loves school and hates to be home when school is in session. Her younger sister is in pre-school, and her mother is an aide there. There are several kids out with what might be flu.

It's just too complicated to figure out what might be happening this flu season. My niece's husband is helping me re-habilitate our back deck, and today he told me that a teacher at his wife's school came to work saying that she thought her husband (who is selling and preparing food at a large country fair) has Swine flu. Yet, she came to work to (possibly) expose whole families of kids to the virus.

It's probably a good idea to take our own physical conditions in stock and limit access to other people if we think that we might be coming down with the flu. It's pretty irresponsible (IMO) to say "my husband is sick as hell" and then come to work in a school full of kids.

OK, full disclosure...it was diagnosed using popular vote, by my family members and some people I emailed at work, haha . I do have darn near every symptom, though. Whatever it is, it's a mild case.

Thanks, VoM.

Absolutely right, turbo. I left a conference yesterday when I started feeling sick, thinking that even though it's not a serious case I have no idea if those around me are in a high-risk category.

You're welcome. Hey, you can call me Mars. It's a nickname a very famous scientist gave me. I was going to use ObservationsofMars but it was too long so I opted to use ViewsofMars.

My suggestion is to see your doctor.

The trees are really starting to turn fast...they're at that half-way point now. I love it when they show a gradient of green to red, spreading across the tree. Beautiful.

Here are a couple of non sequiturs that were popular with friends or acquaintances of mine in college:

"What is the difference between a duck?"

"All pickles are blue Freds."
