Strain Gage Test Advice

Hi,

I am looking to perform a test using strain gages. I have the gages, a wheatsone bridge completion module and a power supply, but I have pretty much next to no experience with actually using gages. Essentially I am trying to verify strain values in some members of a loaded structure. The members are under compressive loading, and due to their geometry the primary failure mode would likely be buckling. I am attaching an image of how I am planning on attaching the gages. Its just a rough paint diagram, but hopefully it gets the point across.
Basically, I guess my question is will this gage placement be adequate given the mode of failure (or at least deflection... hopefully not failure) that is expected. I plan to use a half bridge set up too by the way.

Thanks in advance!
