Finite Element Node numbering

Hi,

I am design 8 node meshes for a steel plate.

I am using a FEM program where i have to number the nodes.

I have been told to design the mesh so that the bandwidth is narrow, i understand how to number the nodes for a 3 node element but i cannot understand how to do it for 8 node elements.

I konw the picture attached is poor quality, but this is the general shape of it and i have been studying the use of 11 - 45 nodes (and more).

I would appreciate anyones help

Thanks,

Rem
