Cigarette smoke

Hey everyone. My SO and I are trying to clean cigarette smoke smell off of an item we obtained from a smoking household. We have tried everything from vinegar to ammonia and it still stinks. It's on metal and plastic, basically non-porous surfaces. Anyone know of any chemical that would neutralize cigarette smoke residue.
