Huh? There are several things that this could mean: filter (both active and passive), transformer, rectifier, etc. Please clarify. Is there a specific circuit that prompted this question?

I guess I could generalize and say that the principle of operation is the exchange of stored electromagnetic energy at a natural exchange rate (frequency).
