Eh I don't really want to but this oil spill bs is kinda making me rethink that...
I mean like I understand that accidents happen even stupid ones. But this problem shouldnt be that hard to fix. The part that really got me going was when they said they were going to burn it and I thought it was an ok idea to deal with the problem. Then I found out they only burned small a few patchs and put containment stuff around it so the fire wouldn't spread... It's like wheres it going to spread to when it's in the ocean... I would have carpet bombed as soon as it started to become almost state sized... Now we can basically consider the oceans dead for the next hunder years or so. Heck I still think they should just burn it even now that some of it is on land. I'll take a few forest fires or what ever over dead oceans. |

I think they spin magnets too.
There's no assurance that we can eat them or that they can eat us. In fact there's a 50-50 chance ther're inedible. Proteins on earth (amino acids actually) are handed. If you try to eat opposite-handed meat it is indigestible and might actually give you mad cow disease (prions are proteins and smaller which are flipped the wrong way.) |

What's wrong with spinning magnets? That's about the weirdest complaint about the human race I've ever heard.

I just saw a bunch of reruns of My Favorite Martian. Your plan is doomed.

I don't know how related my sentiments are to yours, but I often feel extremely ashamed to be a member of the human species. With few exceptions, the people I have met in my life can be described as overgrown children, wrapped in their own insecurities and protected from growth and meaningful interaction by a myriad of protections and defenses of their own creation. Protections and defenses that afford them the ability to go through life on autopilot--almost as if they were asleep. I feel that they so horribly miss the point of living, and at times it seems that this disease is so deeply rooted that those affected are unable to even notice it is there--or worse, able but unwilling to acknowledge its existence.
Fleetingly, I have thoughts of how our primitive race might appear to a more advanced civilization--one that has overcome their primal instincts to become ... something else. Words fail me here. I oftentimes have difficulty expressing my thoughts about the subject because it seems we have so few words that even relate to the concepts I wish to express. Nevertheless, after this I am then preoccupied with thoughts of how I personally would be judged by such a civilization. I am left only to wonder how primitive I might appear to them... But I dunno. Maybe everyone else is perfectly fine and I'm just the crazy one. |

@magpies:
I'm an alien and I don't accept you. Anyone that finds spinning magnets odd is not welcome on Mars. Ya'knw, we don't have magnetic field here, so this is kinda taboo topic for us. |

A better question: would the aliens notice you?

So far no man has been in deep space for a long time, not even lab mice, chances are you're gonna go crazy long before you reach Mars ;) ISS does not count as outer space really... it's well withing the protective shell of the planet, it's pseudo space... Plus what good is living with the potential microorganisms there? Sure, they won't be stupid, but won't be too smart either ;) |

Ah, but Monsanto is bringing protein enhanced Cassava to these regions, but of course, with a cap and after that, a price. That is a lot of what you eat in a jungle.
