How many points are there on the Beaufort scale for measuring wind force?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the number of points on the Beaufort scale used for measuring wind force. Participants explore the structure and classification of the scale, including its range and specific designations for different wind speeds.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant states that there are 13 steps on the Beaufort scale, measured from 0 to 12, with 0 representing calm winds and 12 indicating hurricane-force winds.
  • Another participant claims there are 17 points on the scale, though this assertion lacks further elaboration or context.
  • A third participant humorously acknowledges the previous claim about the points, suggesting a playful engagement with the topic.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the number of points on the Beaufort scale, with conflicting claims about the total count and structure of the scale.

Contextual Notes

The discussion reflects varying interpretations of the Beaufort scale, with some assumptions about the definitions and classifications of wind force not fully explored.

Well, both of them are right somehow :
There actually are 13 steps, but they are measured from 0 to 12.
0 on Beaufort scale is less than 1 knot (called Calm).
12 on Beaufort scale is more than (or equal to) 64 knots (called Hurrican).

17 Points
