Has Anyone Participated in the DuPont Science Essay Contest?

Has anyone here participated in this prestigious competition? I'd like to enter it but they haven't updated the site for next round's competition! Anyways, what are good topics for the essay? I'd like to do Astronomy (seeing that I don't know any specialized knowledge in any field but astronomy). ALso, when is a good time to start for essay contests? Several months before the competition? One month before the competition?

Also, are there any other essay contests for the sciences or engineering? (seeing that these contests merge science and writing, both of paramount importance to aspiring physicsts). I found an essay contest for engineering off CTY's website but the contest's website has not been updated for years.

I have not personally participated in the DuPont Science Essay Contest, but I have heard great things about it. It is definitely a prestigious competition and a great opportunity for students interested in science and writing to showcase their skills.

As for topic ideas, I think astronomy is a fantastic choice! There are so many interesting and relevant topics within the field, such as the search for extraterrestrial life, the effects of space travel on the human body, or the role of astronomy in understanding climate change. I would recommend doing some research and choosing a topic that you are passionate about and that allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and writing skills.

In terms of when to start working on your essay, I would suggest giving yourself enough time to thoroughly research and write your essay. Depending on your schedule and writing process, this could be several months or just a few weeks before the competition. It's always better to start earlier so you have time to revise and make any necessary changes.

Some other notable ones include the Breakthrough Junior Challenge, the Google Science Fair, and the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
