How does blackbody physics explain its ideal (or practical) shape for greatest thermal efficiency?

I may be oversimplifying here, but isn't it quite obvious? When you minimize the surface area, heat transfer is less efficient.

Might thermal conservation by a blackbody be a function of temperature alone?
