How Do Horseshoe Magnets Create Induction Lines Without Contact?

Click For Summary

Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the formation of induction lines created by two horseshoe magnets placed side by side without contact. Participants are exploring the nature of magnetic fields and how they interact in this configuration.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants inquire about the specific arrangement of the magnets and the resulting magnetic field lines. There are questions regarding the terminology used, such as whether the lines refer to attraction or repulsion. Suggestions are made to visualize the magnetic fields using iron filings.

Discussion Status

The discussion is active, with participants sharing ideas and suggesting practical experiments to visualize the magnetic fields. Some guidance has been offered regarding the use of iron filings to observe the induction lines, but there is no explicit consensus on the terminology or the exact nature of the magnetic interactions.

Contextual Notes

Participants are considering the setup of the magnets and the potential need for diagrams or visual aids to better understand the concepts being discussed. There is an emphasis on hands-on experimentation to explore the topic further.

how are lines of induction formed due to 2 horseshoe magnets that are placed side by side but no contact? Are there websites that would show me about it?

We need a diagram of some sort. How exactly are the magnets placed with respect to each other?

Sirus, the two horseshoe magnets are placed close to each other without contact such that (1) like poles are aside and (2) when unlike poles are aside...

do u mean lines of repulsion and attraction?

Why don't you see yourself? Just place a sheet of paper above the magnets and sprinkle iron filing around the magnets onto the paper.

Ok... why didn't I think of it?

Hello.. I would suggest to try it somewhere... for me, I'll go to the laboratory and find it out. I think it will be fun because you're using iron fillings..
