Silkworm vs. Spider silk

I'm doing lots of research in this topic about the difference between them. I have found that they are genetically manipulating the silk spiders with silkworm. Silkworm are easier to manipulated because of their nature, but on the other hand spider silk tends to have more strength and a much larger range of the silk producing protein than spiders. I believe there is a connection between the topic that is material oriented and I no there is the connection with Chemical Eng having to do with the process that must be implemented to utilize the material .I just want reassurance that this makes sense or if there is something else I should be looking in to.
