Can You Help with the Egg Drop Challenge?

Click For Summary

Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around a physics project known as the Egg Drop Challenge, where participants are tasked with designing a contraption to protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from varying heights. The materials allowed are limited to 5 sheets of computer paper, 1 meter of masking tape, and the egg itself.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking, Problem interpretation

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants suggest various ideas such as creating a parachute or wrapping the egg in paper. There are discussions about the constraints of the project, including the restriction on the tape touching the egg and the need for easy access to check for cracks.

Discussion Status

The conversation is ongoing, with multiple ideas being explored. Some participants have offered suggestions for construction methods, while others are clarifying the requirements and constraints of the challenge.

Contextual Notes

Participants note that the egg must survive drops from increasing heights, starting from 1 meter and going up to the top of a stairwell. There is also a requirement for the egg to be easily accessible for inspection.

EGG DROP! woohoo!

Hello all!
I have been getting frustrated with this certain physics project...
the materials are as follows:
5 sheets of computer paper
1 meter of masking tape
1 raw egg

THAT'S IT!

any ideas on how to make the egg survive? parachutes? baskets?

i know you have to decrease the time of impact so the force will be smaller, but how do you go about doing that with only 5 SHEETS OF PAPER?!

rar!
thanks for your help!

maybe you could make a parachute out of the sheets of paper and use masking tape to attach the egg to the parachute

oh yeah minor detail i forgot...
the sticky part of the tape can't touch the egg

u could wrap the egg in a sheet of paper and then do as i said in the post before

how far do u have to drop the egg?

first 1 meter, then 2, then from the top of the stairwell...
and you have to be able to get the egg quickly in and out of the contraption, so it can be checked for cracks..

Make a crumple zone and gamble :P My friend did it and survived 2 tests :P
