My Idea to Resolve the New Forum Issue
Here's my suggestion...
1) Give every thread a subsection/subtopic attribute. 2) Since every thread internally now has a subsection attribute, the layout/organization of the forum can be customized by the user (data seperated from layout). He/she can choose... a) A "classic" layout in which all subsection (for example classical physics, quantum physics, etc) is merged under a big section (for example, physics). It will appear just like the old forum layout. There will be small icons that desribes a thread's subsection. b) A "new/structured" layout in which the forum appears like now. c) A customized layout in which the user define his/her own supersection and put subsections in it. Suppose I make a section titled "My Main Interests" and put "Quantum Physics and Differential Equation" threads in it. Other (uncategorized) subsection(s) will be grouped under "Others" section. When someone posts a new thread in a "classic" layout, he can choose his subsection (the default is undeclared/undefined). This option can be put near the option for choosing thread icon. When someone posts a new thread in a "new/structured layout", the default subsection is the subsection he is now in (But he can change it). When someone posts a new thread in his customized layout, he needs to choose the section and subsection manually. I know it requires lots of programming but I think it will make everyone happy. What do you guys think? |
