My degree's in Urban Planning
It was a waste of time
Then I tried selling condos, but
I couldn't make a dime
So I got a job at KMart
In order to survive
I'm doing what I've got to
Just to stay alive

When I was just a young boy
My mother said hey son
Please become a doctor
Don't be a useless bum
But I tried to be rock star
And now everything is rap
I just don't understand why
People buy that stuff

I open cardboard boxes
I stock along the aisles
I bag things for the customers
And do it with a smile
"Attention KMart shoppers
There's a special on aisle five."
I hear all the announcements
But have no urge to buy

There's no chance of an increase
Above the min'mum wage
The thing that gripes me most is
The boss is half my age
Unlike in Folsom Prison
There's no sentence to expire
I'd ask for something better
But then I might get fired
