Spin polarization of metals

Hi, quick question. I am looking for some help with spin polarization of metals.

I would like to be able to get an understanding of the methods of putting a metal into a high spin state and whether this could be accomplished with rotating magnetic fields?

Any help or pointers for further study would be much appreciated!
