haha. in most of Canada the age is 19, but the french made an exception and dropped it a year. 19's also the age where you can legally buy cigarettes

but hey, you guys get to drive about a 8-12 months b4 us. at 16 we can get our training license, and then if we do driving school we can get our full license (well we have graduated licensing. so the first one is your G1, second is G2, then final is G) in 8 months, if not you have to wait till your 17. then another year before the G. The G1 and G2 expire after a certain amount of time, but the G is for life i think...i don't know for sure. G1 you can't drive without someone who's had their license for 4 years in the front passenger seat, and can't drive on a 400 series highway without a driving instructor. G2 you can drive by yourself, but can't have more people than you have seatbelts for, and can't drive out of the country. With G you can drive out of the country, and for us country folk that also means you can drive people in the back of your truck lol.

Haha Canada is so funny...all these crazy rules and restrictions! but if i ever wanted to go to a strip club or smoke weed (which i hope i never do), i'll just go to Canada.

the driving rules here are less strict, but i know so many of my friends who are careless drivers and they get into accidents and stuff...i try to be safe, and i haven't gotten a ticket in over a year of (legal) driving.

lol! strip clubs I am pretty sure are 19, Quebec is 18, porn in ontario is 18 haha so strip clubs may be as well. and as for weed, its no longer slightly legalized anymore. although I am sure eventually it will be legal...the economic potential is just far too great.

Hehe, for our high school senior year class trip we went to Canada and all the parents needed to sign forms stating that they realized their kids who'd already turned 18 could do things they otherwise couldn't do in the US. Fun times...

Our laws vary from state to state for driving. I currently live in a state where they set 16 yr-olds loose on the roads (so did MI), and they are far too young to be responsible drivers. I grew up in NJ, and there, you could get a learning permit at 16 that sounds very much like the same restrictions you have in Canada on a G1 license...you have to first pass the written test on rules of the road, must be with someone who has held a license over 3 or 4 years (can't remember anymore) and that person had to be over 25, and you couldn't drive after dark. When you turn 17, you can take the driving test to get your full license. Even when you get the full license, in the first 3 years, the penalties can be bit higher for some offenses (I think a court appearance was mandatory if you got a ticket, where someone with more experience can just mail in the fee).

As for the lower drinking age in Canada, yeah, that's an issue in MI. The college students drive to Windsor (just across the border from Detroit) to drink and then drive back. I'm sure there are a few too many drunk drivers on the road when they are driving so far to get alcohol.
