Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around calculating the total force experienced by a rectangular loop in a magnetic field defined by the vector B = (6x, -9y, 3z). The loop is situated in the z = 0 plane with specified dimensions.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking, Mathematical reasoning

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • The original poster attempts to apply the torque equation and questions whether integration is necessary for all four sides of the rectangle. Other participants inquire about the current in the loop and provide information regarding its value and direction.

Discussion Status

Participants are exploring different aspects of the problem, including the need for integration and the application of the electromagnetic force expression. Guidance has been offered regarding the necessity of integrating for each side of the rectangle due to the non-constant magnetic field.

Contextual Notes

There is a lack of clarity regarding the current in the loop initially, which is later confirmed to be 5 A in the counterclockwise direction. The discussion also highlights the need to consider the varying magnetic field across the loop.

given that B = (6x, -9y, 3z) find the total force experienced by a rectangular loop in the z = 0 plane.
1<x<3
1<y<2

i used the torque equation, but my question is if i have to do the integration for all 4 sides of the rectangle.
T = int(dl cross B)

I don't get it,what's the curreent in the loop?

Daniel.

oh yea, there's 5 A in the counterclockwise direction

Okay, then.U know the expression for the electromagnetic force (the one containing the cross product) in diff.form.Apply it for the 4 sides of the rectangle and do those integrations (u need them, because the field is not constant) .Then simply add the 4 resulting vectors...

Daniel.
