Physics Project Ideas for High School Beginner

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around generating ideas for a summer physics project suitable for a high school beginner. Participants suggest various project concepts that incorporate physical principles, aiming to provide accessible options for someone new to the subject.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests a "tomato launcher" as a project idea.
  • Another participant emphasizes that any project involving standing up, falling down, rolling over, or lighting up incorporates physics, and encourages narrowing down interests to a specific area of physics or engineering.
  • A different suggestion includes building a railgun, presented humorously.
  • One participant proposes exploring cavitation by heating water and spinning a propeller to create bubbles.
  • Another participant advises focusing on a particular field of physics to help refine project ideas and gather necessary information.
  • A new participant expresses a need for help in finding a suitable physics project.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the importance of narrowing down interests to specific areas of physics or engineering, but there are multiple competing project ideas presented without a consensus on the best option.

Contextual Notes

Some suggestions may depend on the availability of materials and the participant's specific interests, which are not fully articulated in the discussion.

Who May Find This Useful

High school students seeking beginner-level physics project ideas, educators looking for project suggestions, and hobbyists interested in simple physics experiments.

i was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a summer project that involves building with the use of physical concepts. i am looking for somthing not very difficult, please keep in mind that i am a beginer at physics and only a high school student. any ideas are greatly appricated.

Tomato launcher!

If you build anything and it stands up, falls down, rolls over, lights up, etc...physics is involved. For a first step, try to narrow down your interests to a particular area of physics/engineering. What interests you?

Railgun

the easiest thing to do is cavitation. heat up a cup of water to near boiling then spin a propeller in it. Little bubles form at low pressure spots on the propeller.

I'm going with Fred on this one Rasine, try narrowing down what field of physics you want to consentrate on for your project (I'm sure you already have some ideas). Once you do that then you can start to look at gathering the information you'll need. Also then all the physics forums gurus and folks will be able to give you information/help on your project (there are some strings about physics/science class projects floating around on here already that you may also get directed to that could help). Good luck

I Need Help
