Why doesn't it matter how far you keep an object when you are finding the displacement by the glass block

I have absolutely no idea what that means! How far you keep an object from what? "Displacement by the glass block"? How does a glass block displace anything?

Please give the precise problem.
 
I was referring to this equation actually "d=n[1-1/n]"(regarding glass blocks).When considering "d" in this equation why doesn't it matter how far you keep the object from the glass block. Why doesn't "d" change when the object is kept 2 or 5cm or what ever distances away
