Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the creation of user names that incorporate unusual or "strange" characters, including specific inquiries about using characters like a 'bar' or strikethrough in usernames.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest using alt codes to create special characters in usernames.
  • Another participant mentions using the Character Map tool in Windows XP to select and copy desired characters.
  • A question is raised about incorporating a 'bar' in a username, specifically in the context of a strikethrough effect.
  • A later reply clarifies that the strikethrough effect seen in usernames typically indicates that the user is no longer a member, rather than being a feature of username creation.
  • One participant advises against using the 'bar' since it is associated with a user being banned or having terminated their membership.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the feasibility and desirability of using a 'bar' in usernames, with some clarifying its implications while others focus on the technical aspects of creating usernames with special characters.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not resolve the question of how to create usernames with specific characters, particularly the 'bar', and lacks consensus on the appropriateness of such characters.

With alt codes maybe?

ie, alt + ####

If you're using Windows XP go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map and pick out some characters. Use the select and copy buttons on the Character Map program to choose and copy the characters you want.

Thanks a lot, But how can I make a name with a 'bar', looks like erasing a name: ---gostraight---, for instance ?

Oh, that's not something you do when you create your username. The strikeout through someone's username indicates they are no longer a member, either because they were banned or they asked to terminate their membership.

So you probably DO NOT want the bar.
