What Resource Clarifies Physics Terms Like Kinetic Energy and Momentum?

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around finding resources that clarify and differentiate various physics terms, such as kinetic energy, momentum, velocity, speed, work, and force. Participants seek references that can help them understand these concepts more clearly.

Discussion Character

  • Conceptual clarification
  • Meta-discussion

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses confusion over physics definitions and requests a comprehensive list to clarify terms like kinetic energy, momentum, and others.
  • Another participant recommends using a 'Dictionary of Physics' as a useful reference for remembering definitions.
  • Several online glossaries are suggested as resources for physics terminology.
  • A participant mentions Wikipedia as a helpful resource for general physics information.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for resources to clarify physics terms, but no consensus exists on a single best resource.

Contextual Notes

Some participants reference specific resources without providing detailed evaluations of their effectiveness or comprehensiveness.

Does anybody have a list of all of the different physics definitions, such as Kinetic Energy vs. Velocity, vs. Momentum, vs. Speed or Work vs. Force etc. etc. I tend to get the definitions confused so if there is anybody who has a site or paper which points out the differences between the different sets clearly I would greatly appreciate it.

Physics news on Phys.org
I use a 'Dictionary of Physics' for remembering things like this. A very handy small reference book that I use a lot.

It is at work, so I can't give you more details, but if you can get something similar you will find it very useful.
(I use it to try and work out what many of the posts on this forum are going on about! )

There are a lot of physics glossaries on the web:
