Click For Summary

Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around a physics problem involving a block attached to a cylinder, focusing on the calculation of distance traveled over a specific time interval given the angular acceleration.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking, Problem interpretation

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants explore the use of angular displacement equations under constant angular acceleration and discuss the need to calculate distances at specific time intervals. Questions arise regarding the initial velocity required for displacement calculations.

Discussion Status

The conversation is ongoing, with some participants suggesting methods to find the distance traveled while others express uncertainty about the initial conditions needed for calculations. There is no clear consensus yet on how to proceed with the problem.

Contextual Notes

Participants are working under the assumption that the angular acceleration is constant, but there is a lack of clarity regarding the initial velocity and how to incorporate it into their calculations.

Ok so i found the angular acceleration when the block of the mass is attached to the cylinder to be 70.03 when the mass weighs .47 kg. But i am having trouble finding the distance it has traveled from 0.51 s to .71 s assuming that at 0s the motion has begun. Does anyone have any ideas?

If the angular acceleration is constant, use the angular form of displacement for constant acceleration. The distance between 0.51s and 0.71s is the difference between the total distance traveled in 0.51s and 0.71s

i understand that you should find the distances of each time and subtract to find the distance traveled within that time but I don't understand how to find the velocity because the equation to find displacement requires aninitial velocity.

State the entire problem then
