Physics degree versus ME degree


ME's generally make more, I know that. But money aside, could someone point out some key differences between what you would experience in a job with either degree?

This is a simple example of what I think the difference might be.
ME spends time creating a reclining mechanism for a car seat. Repeating the design until it is cost effective and reliable.
Physics guy decides what metal will handle the forces and what spring will be strong enough to recline seat.

Is it anything like this? If you either have a ME or Physics degree Id appreciate it if you could post what you've done for a living and what your job entails. Thanks for your time.
