Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around a forensic reconstruction of Nicolaus Copernicus' face, including the implications of DNA evidence linking skeletal remains to Copernicus. The scope includes historical and forensic analysis, as well as public interest in the findings.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Historical

Main Points Raised

  • One participant shares a link to a forensic reconstruction of Copernicus' face, seeking to reach a broad audience.
  • Another participant humorously references a fictional portrayal of Copernicus on a television show.
  • A third participant provides a link to high-resolution images of the reconstruction.
  • Further, a participant discusses DNA results from hairs found in books owned by Copernicus, suggesting they match those from skeletal remains discovered in a grave at Frombork Cathedral, proposing this as strong evidence of the identity of the remains.
  • The same participant notes that these findings could potentially resolve long-standing questions about Copernicus' burial site.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the implications of the forensic reconstruction or the DNA evidence, and the discussion includes both light-hearted commentary and serious historical inquiry.

Contextual Notes

The discussion includes references to specific evidence and claims about identity, but does not resolve the broader implications of these findings or the historical context of Copernicus' life and work.

This purports to be a forensic reconstruction of Copernicus' face. Not sure exactly where to post this, but would like to share it with the widest audience possible.

Didn't I see him on 'Law & Order' a couple of weeks ago?

So now, DNA results of hairs collected from books Copernicus owned, indicate they are from the same person as that found in the unmarked grave buried in the 14th-century Frombork Cathedral in Poland where Nikolaus served as a canon. The skeletal remains were found in 2005. This is strong supporting evidence that the body they found, are the remains of Nikolaus Copernicus.
