Programs Don't like my calculus class, but want to be a math major...

Thanks for the heads-up, I forgot you could do latex in PF. Also, you're not the first person to say that the applications should get more interesting. I guess I'll just wait and see.

Programs Don't like my calculus class, but want to be a math major...

    Here's what I got: "A particle is moving along the x-axis so that its position at t ≥ 0 is given by s(t) = (t)In(3t). Find the acceleration of the particle when the velocity is first zero." velocity = s'(t) s'(t) = ln(3t) + 1 ln(3t) + 1 = 0 t = 1/3e acceleration = s''(t) s''(t) = 1/t...

Programs Don't like my calculus class, but want to be a math major...

Just wanted to say thank you for all of the answers everyone gave, it was all really helpful. It took me so long to respond because of school. After some long thought, I realized that I'm just not really a fan of physics - in the way it's presented in my class. I'm going to take the time to...

Programs Don't like my calculus class, but want to be a math major...

Yes, I can do the calculations, and I them all incredibly repetitive and dull - which judging from these answers may be more a characteristic of my class, rather than of calculus itself. Over the summer, I may just restudy it by myself to get a better perspective. Thanks for answering, this was...

Programs Don't like my calculus class, but want to be a math major...

@Mark44 It's an AP class, so if I pass the exam, I'll get college credit for calc 1 and 2 - if that's what you mean. @FactChecker The more I think about it, the more I'm pretty sure I just don't like calculation. I find it tedious and I stop paying attention after awhile. That's why I'm...

Programs Don't like my calculus class, but want to be a math major...

I am currently a junior in high school and recently, my guidance counselor has been asking me a lot of questions about what I want to major in. Within the last 6-8 months, I have been leaning heavily towards a math major. That was until I started my calc class this year... I'm in AP Calc BC...

Schools Getting a mathematics mentor in high school?

I do have a robotics competition coming up at a local college. Maybe it's worth talking to some people about opportunities there. Also, I could apply for a CC class even before finishing out the school year?

Thank you for the suggestion. It sounds like that is my most realistic option at this point. That's something I can look forward to for next year :)

Schools Getting a mathematics mentor in high school?

Yes, I'm about 10 minutes from a CC actually. I'm taking calculus right now, so I could try and ask for next year.

That seems to be what every adult says. I guess it's for a reason, despite being very frustrating.

Schools Getting a mathematics mentor in high school?

Yes, the math tutor at my school checks them. He studied math in college, but not very extensively, which is why it's difficult to ask him more abstract questions. So far, all of my proofs have been correct.

Schools Getting a mathematics mentor in high school?

I have talked to some people about taking math classes at a college, but I go to a cyber school. The relationships with teachers are a little impersonal, so it's sometimes difficult to prove my abilities beyond grades. For example, I opened up to the regular calculus teacher about my issue and...

Schools Getting a mathematics mentor in high school?

High school student here... Over the past year or so, I've developed an intense interest in mathematics. I work problems every day and I am constantly working to grow my knowledge. As a junior, I am currently in AP calculus and will most likely be eligible for Calc 3 my senior year. I'm...
