I want to purchase one of these computers

You sure about that? Not going to do much gaming with that. Are you planning on going with linux or something else besides Windows? That will seriously limit your gaming selection.

I want to purchase one of these computers

Yea, need more info. Since you aren't a hard core gamer, that opens up a lot of potential systems. Since it appears you want a laptop, which may limit selection. First, what is the primary use, and is battery life important for your main use? If you need to be unplugged for hours on end, system...

Any help diagnosing a network failure?

I assume some providers do the same thing some once did. They would connect a PC to the cable modem and the MAC from the PC was used as validation of an authorized system using the cable modem vs. someone just buying a cable modem and plugging in. When I added a router, they had me spoof the MAC...

    Buying a gaming laptop

If this is for school use, you will need to lean toward long battery life. Most gaming "laptops" are little more than small desktops that can't be far from a power outlet for long. Since your priority is school (GOOD FOR YOU!), I'd shoot for the battery life and maybe enough of a graphics card...

(?) about temperature of a computer?

I think the best point you are making is that it's not important to freeze your CPU, GPU, or memory, but rather to keep them within the safe operating range as you turn up the voltages, clock speeds, etc. Too cold (freezing) isn't good either. I haven't used LN2. IMO, it's too much effort, cost...

(?) about temperature of a computer?

Fun pictures of LN2 cooling for OC'd systems http://www.tomshardware.com/picturestory/474-toms-hardware-overclocking-competition.html As some of the comments note, these are not "for looks", but rather raw cooling for seriously OC'd systems. As some posters have noted, if you are cooling...

Gaming Laptops: Asus G-Series vs. Alienware

You could get a Asus G75 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+17.3%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/5176239.p?id=1218621250769&skuId=5176239 , which is pretty good, but a bit heavy and not at the level or cost of an Alien. However, I'd consider a good light weight laptop for school...

    Problem installing Java

"access denied" is the hint. Take a look at your Norton configuration to be sure you don't have some component blocked from the days before you used Java. I block all kinds of garbage I don't want running on my system. Perhaps there is something you have blocked from days gone by.

    Intel or AMD gaming build?

As Vladimirr posted, go to http://www.tomshardware.com/ post your question and you'll get an answer from hard core gamers and performance nuts. You can also check the "Build Your Own" lastest articles to see what's testing tops these days.

Do NOT buy a Unicomp keyboard!

Good to know, but I've never heard of them. Very bad customer response! Not a way to stay in business. Was there something unqiue about their keyboards that got your attention? I pretty much stick to MS and Logitech keyboards, although for gaming, I've considered the Razor.

    Bulding a cluster

I've built farms in the past when I was involved in the Seti @ Home project. There are loads of info from those folks setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu . If you go to some of the user website they have the most info. At least they did. Not done S@H in many years. Generally, with PCs that old, one...

Would removing the side panel of my PC help with airflow/cooling?

Maybe yes, maybe no. With your stock system, it was designed for an airflow path by engineers to achieve the needed cooling. Many cases only have one removable side, with the other side being the motherboard mount. Removing one side may cool the inside of the case in a general way, but without...
