Is this right?, conservation of energy!

what do you mean keep going in the -x direction? why do you think it was going in the -x direction in the first place?

Ohh okay, that's what I was missing. Thanks a lot!

Electric field inside a parallel plate capacitor

Okay but doesn't that mean the electric field inside that pillbox is zero? I am just getting confused because when you have a charged spherical shell, the field inside is zero because there is no charge.

Electric field inside a parallel plate capacitor

Ok I took E&M about 3 years ago and decided I needed to review it. I'm up to gauss' law and am getting confused about one thing. If you have two infinitely long oppositely charged plates, solving for the total e field inside is done by making two gaussian surfaces that enclose each plate. Doing...

    Potential in a quadrupole

Hello, I have a problem where a charged particle is residing in a two dimensional quadrupole where the electric potential is given by ψ(x,y,t) = (V/ro)*(x^2 + y^2)*Cos(Ωt). Where we are supposed to use the values V = 150 volts, ro (which is the distance from the center to one of the surface...
