Sourcing a Diverter Valve for Regenerative Blower

I am at a loss for trying to find this part, it seems like only 1 or 2 manufacturers produce this, But I'm sure it is more common than that. This is an attachment that goes on to the inlet/outlet of regenerative blowers, and with a solenoid, allows the output port to switch between vacuum...

Does a capsized boat of iron float?

Well, then they'd fill it up with co2 Eat some beans and asparagus, and that boat might flip back upright.

Advice for the design of an automatic door opener

True, though I dont see how this concept can't be applied vertically with a stronger motor. Its basically how all windows open, use rotary motion to swing open the windows. That example is a bit more complicated with a rail and bushing,

Does a capsized boat of iron float?

How about the trapped air once it flips? that should help it float

Effect of off-center mass on guide rails for acceleration

Hi, There is a mass that sits on a bridge between 2 parallel actuator (2 axis gantry), and slides on linear guides. If the mass is not centred, and close to one side of the drives, would that require that 1 of the actuators to put out more force? or would it always be even? I figure you might...

    Scissor lift hydraulics

I'm taking a guess here: If your oil reservoir is topped off, its possible there might be a leak in the seal of the piston, in which case, you might need to replace the faulty cylinder.

    Automatic opening lid stay

The way I was taught to design gas springs, was to pick an equilibrium position (Somewhere in the middle of your stroke) Where your mass has a 0 net moment and force. Work out the moment questions + force equations to figure out how much force you spring needs. Your dimensions, angles should be...

Cutting a Groove -- Power Requirement

Are your units correct? I see some mm then m/min. I didnt read the background, but that could be a reason. Edit: NVM, m/min is your RPM

    Countertop overhang

I did a quick Solidworks simulation of your part, everything checked out in terms of failure. I used an arbitrary value of 100 lbs force on the furthest edge, it seems like it can support it, though it doesn't take into accoutn constructio of the table such as welding type. Also it does show...

    Tolerance management problem

I guess each part would be manufactured differently, so each would have its own tolerance. But what you said makes alot of sense, the hole with the positive tolerance, the bolt with the negative tolerance.

    Tolerance management problem

I'm trying to learn from your example myself. Couldn't you define your 3 sigma point (or 3 standard deviations away from the perfect) as being your worst but acceptable tolerance. And your mean as the perfect scenario.
  18. B

    Tolerance management problem

So it seems your worst case scenario shouldn't exceed 0.4mm, so you would need to assume ALL the links are not perfect.

Does a Belt drive actuator isolate motor vibration?

That's an excellent point, that if the belt is rigid enough, it could act as a source of vibration. I never considered that.

Does a Belt drive actuator isolate motor vibration?

Well from what i've read is that sometimes motor rotors can be out of balance, which at higher RPMs would cause the motor housing to shake and consequently the bracket holding the motor. Now usually this is negligible, however for some precision applications, this has a potential to affect the...

Does a Belt drive actuator isolate motor vibration?

Trying to build a case for a belt driven ball screw axis versus a Planetary gear box, with the fact that the motor vibration would carry down the gearbox to the axis, but the timing belt drive would isolate the motor vibration. How would I model this? and ideally a way to get a factor of...

Static coefficient of friction between copper or brass

Whats your the pitch of your screw? Also the angle at which the contact is made between the 2 points, I imagine the force to calculate friction would be from the axial force created from turning the screw.

    Very basic question about forces

you have distance, initial velocity, final velocity and solving for acceleration. Solve the kinematic equation that doesn't have time.

Automotive Powering the surrounding neighborhood using friction from passing cars

I think the technology may not be a necessity now, but I imagine if there were remote areas that could not generate electricity through wind, solar, or fossil energy, this could be used in any environment that there is a source of traffic (people, cars, trains). To counter the loss of the car...
