    Sound of Music

I was watching 'The sound of Music' for the nth time with my 11 year old daughter. There is a scene at the beginning, the Reverend mother tells Maria to go to the Captain's house. My daughter insists the reverend mother says "the captain's wife died seven years ago". And when the kids's names...

Can anyone recognize the background music?

That's the one. Thanks Matterwave. From someone's comment from the link you provided, it seems that this is a variation of 'Scott Storch' beat.

    Worst music

I must be pretty dumb with jazz music. I get very annoyed by all the Coltrane saxophone music.

The most primary language is the body language. Speaking is just a complex body language.

Why can't anybody be a music composer?

A decent computer chess AI program remembers 10^120 positions. The difficulty in creating computer generated tunes lies not in finding out all the combinations. The difficulty is in choosing which tune is better than the other one. In a chess program, there is deterministic way to find out move...

Have any non Americans not heard of the music group Boney M?

This is my favorite Boney M. "Never never change lovers in the middle of the night" Don't look at the video, that's quite funny (especially the guy) compared to today's standards. But I would be surprised if you are into pop/disco music and do not like this beat.

Have any non Americans not heard of the music group Boney M?

Have any non Americans not heard of the music group Boney M? Or any American heard of Boney M? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boney_M I was quite surprised that none of my American friends ever heard of them. Boney M was a world hit in 70s and 80s. At the bottom of the above wiki link, they...

    Physics of Music

Is there a specific reason why the music notes are of the well-known frequencies? Or, the frequencies just became the de facto standard from some historical musical instrument? http://www.techlib.com/reference/musical_note_frequencies.htm I was wondering if sound processing is similar to...

Why can't anybody be a music composer?

I meant, the tune part. I would agree song writing would be much harder from an AI perceptive.

Why can't anybody be a music composer?

Starting with baby steps, we can play all the notes with a quarter note, skip all the dynamics, staccato, legato... Keep it all for improvisation. I just counted "Few of my favourite things" sheet music. If you skip all the redundant/repeating measures, it comes to a maximum of 30 measures (90...

Why can't anybody be a music composer?

Composing a popular music should be much simpler than literature. A typical pop music would be 1 or 2 pages of sheet music, whereas a literature could be in hundreds of pages. Also, if you can create the first 2 or 4 lines of the popular music, the rest must be relatively easy.

Why can't anybody be a music composer?

Why can't anybody be a music composer??? There are only a finite number music notes. And to create a finite duration of music, write an algorithm that plays all the combinations of the notes in, say, piano. Listen to most/all of them (or outsource them) and pick the better ones. Optionally...
