B Does the Universe really have to be at least as old as the oldest thing in it?

Could something older than our universe originating from another universe get sucked into a wormhole and wind up in our universe therefore being older than our universe itself?

B If string theory is correct does it mean that elementary particles don't really exist?

I'm not asking about cosmic strings in the second question, but the string in string theory. Apparently the two are different entities, not the same thing. I got them mixed up.

B If string theory is correct does it mean that elementary particles don't really exist?

I have done some reading and can see indeed that cosmic strings and the string in string theory are different entities. Cosmic strings can exist without string theory.

B If string theory is correct does it mean that elementary particles don't really exist?

If string theory is true, does it mean quarks, electrons, photons etc. are made of strings and so are not really elementary particles, but are made of strings?

B Is gravity a force or not?

I guess the answer to "is gravity a force?" can be "yes and no". In the context of general relativity it is not a force, however in most other situations like in designing buildings, bridges etc. it can be referred as a force.

B Is gravity a force or not?

According to general relativity, gravity is not a force, however it is referred as one of the four fundamental forces. This seems like a contradiction.

Can people die of old age?

Yeah, I agree. Old age by itself is not deadly. Diseases that occur when people get old are what kill people, not the old age itself.

Can people die of old age?

Robert Young, a gerontology researcher who does research on supercentenarians (people who have reached at least 110 years of age) believes that it is possible for people to die of old age. http://gerontology.wikia.com/wiki/Robert_Young...

Can people die of old age?

Apparently "old age" is not a scientifically recognized cause of death. The typical belief by scientists is that people die of diseases that occur in old age, never of old age itself. However some gerontology researchers have disputed such and say that people can indeed die of old age alone.

Do you think all railroad crossings should be replaced with overpasses

yeah, it would be extremely difficult to replace all railroad crossings. there's so many of them. if a railroad crossing blocks the only entrance to a neighborhood, i think it should be replaced with an overpass.

wouldn't it be better just to consider birds to be their own class? saying "nonavian reptiles" and "nonavian dinosaurs" is cumbersome. better to reserve the words "reptile" and "dinosaur" for animals that aren't birds. after all, reptile stores don't typically sell birds. that shows that the...

Did hunter gatherers work less or more than modern humans?

I think they worked more or thought so. Work was hard with those primitive tools and took longer and they needed to work a lot to sustain themselves. However I recently read where it was stated that they worked less.

Did hunter gatherers work less or more than modern humans?

Did hunter gatherers work less or more than modern humans? Apparently consensus is that they worked less. There are those who believe they worked more, that they had to work constantly to sustain themselves and had little free time.
