I only learned advanced Math to help me think in a certain way (I like physics and I program applications on a computer). Training your brain to think in a logical manner is very useful application in my opinion and is a highly transferable skill.
How about something along the lines of an old Bagatelle type game?
It would be easy to make.
A piece of plywood with small nails hammered partly the way through it.
A number of small balls
Numbered slots at the bottom for the ball to drop into.
You could have theme games like playing...
It may be a solution just to let them kill each other.
I know it sounds a bit callus but if the hatred is insurmountable (neither side willing to accommodate the other for any reason) then what other choices are available?
If the UN or any other country thinks it has a right to intervine...
What are the main contentions between Sunni's and Shiites? Is it similar to the problems between Protestants and Catholics? Some stupid differences in interperating a religious text?
If it is then I've got no sympathy for them because I've have no tolorance for that kind of stupidity.
This isn't just from your statement. I've heard similar claims and I've wondered about it for years.
I suspected it was because the explanation of matter falling into a BH was oversimplified to a high degree. I wasn't suggesting that matter doesn't enter the BH just that if the matter appeared...
This has always seemed flawed to me. If any matter that enters a BH would appear stationary at the horizon then surely, with the amount of matter that has previously fallen in, the BH would seize to be 'black' as it would appear to have a 'coating'/'shell' surrounding it.
When I disagree with someone it is usually because I've thought long and hard about something and then drew my possible conclusions. If someone has come to a different conclusion I sometimes think that they obviously haven't thought things through in the degree that I have. This is obviously...
SpaceTiger's explanation covers a lot of ground and applies to most people (if not all).
I get misunderstood all the time it seems.
Mainly because the chain:
1) What I want to say
2) What I actually say
3) What the other person thinks I said
4) How the person interperates what...
Perhaps have the government buy the weapons?
Allow a certain time for compliance, say 6 months, to allow people to exchange the weapons in their possession for money/clothes/food etc (or even to beef up the security of their home).
After that time make it illegal for a civilian to own a...
I have also felt that I've been insulted now and again but I wouldn't even consider putting a complaint in. If someone crosses the line the moderators should step in. That's what they are there for IMO.
Automatic banning by the server? That seems pretty dumb. Does that mean I could just...
I posted several definitions of Philosophy from the web to illustrate a point.
I class myself as agnostic and so I probably see a lot more similarities between philosophy and religion than a person who is a devout believer, for example.
I'm not sure what you mean by this?
Ok. Personally I think my statement to be true. The fact that you disagree is ok. Do you guys have religious beliefs?
I don't. I like to try and keep an open mind so I read and discuss a variety of religions which is why I see similarities between religion and philosophy:
I was speaking about 'either/or'. If intel had got 'reliable' information that an individual had a remote detonator on him OR a person was an actual walking bomb then the method of take-down would be the same.
That news article said she counted the rounds as she was running away. Is that...
I'm sure you are aware that witnessess make bad witnessess. If there was 30 witnessess it would be unlikely that any of them would see the same thing. The trick, I think, is to listen to all of them and find the correlations. It takes a lot of training to observe details in a high stress situation.
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm no doctor :)
What I do know is that military personel are trained that in those circumstances (potential suicide bomber or remote detonation) you're to keep firing until the body seizes all movement.
It's different if the shooter believed he was killing a suicide bomber or had a remote contolled detonator because he/she would be trying to destroy the brain to prevent reflex action therefore the amount of rounds would depend on whether the target is moving at all (keep firing until all...
Too many people say "Why should I?" when faced with something to do when they should be asking "Why shouldn't I?".
We ARE the sum of our experiences. The more we do the greater we are.
On a weirder note I've thought that the meaning of life was to tie up loose...
I thought it might be:
"Find out your good points and try to enhance them. Find out your bad points and try to reduce them. Be honest with yourself".
It's something that'll last you a life time and if there's no meaning to life at least you'll become a better person (hopefully).
Methinks perhaps thou art wary my friend.
Fear not the path that leads towards the glorious gates of the palace of wisdom for it is written (Somewhere. I don't know where. Probably on the back of a beer mat) that time guides the curious to hidden pastures filled with knowledge (or cow pats, I...
No role reversal needed :))
Against all odds let's walk hand-in-hand down the path of patience in the tireless search for more facts.
Let us contemplate the final day when our journey is complete and a revelation will be witnessed as a conclusion is born.
Let those who witness the...
They are involved all over the world and the one thing that gives me doubts is that I agree that they wouldn't make such a c*ck up (unless there was some bad intel going around that we're not aware of yet)
